Do not rent list (due to alleged misuse of corporate CDP for rentals)
So recently, a friend of mine was placed on the DNR list. They claim that he was using a company discount program which he was not entitled to. After speaking with him, it was pretty clear that he was a part of the company, so i suggested he give Hertz a call. Any other recommendations?

Did he use the company's CDP for a leisure rental? If so, was he entitled to do so under the terms of the company's agreement with Hertz?

it was for leisure. on the rental agreement it states "for employees/member's of company xxxx", and he is a member, so i would assume he was entitled.

When you say he was part of the company, was he an employee of the company?
Has he checked with the company whether employees are permitted to use the rate for leisure rentals?
If they are and he is an employee, I would suggest that he get te company to write a letter confirming that he is an employee of the company and entitled to use the Hertz discount rate. If he then sends that to Hertz, it may well remove him from the DNR list

he is not an employee, he is a member. and as stated on the contract, members may use the company code.

What does it mean to be a "member" of some company? Is he trying to claim that because he has an AmEx card, he can use the rate for AmEx employees or because he's enrolled in some FF program, he can use rates for airline employees? Maybe he owns one share of stock in the company?

He has a banking account with the company.

Yeah, that doesn't really pass muster. If the CDP says, "Chase Bank" and he's got a Chase savings account, that doesn't make him eligible to use the CDP. He shouldn't waste his time. Hertz won't buy that explanation.

Doesn't matter what is on the contract , what matters is what the CDP agreement between the company and Hertz is
It sounds more like that he was using a code to which he was not entitled to use and has been found out
Is this a code that he was given by the bank or one that he found trawling the internet? If the latter, then time to give it up
If this is a code that he is entitled to use, then tell him to go to the bank and get a letter from it confirming his entitlement. I doubt that he was added to DNR list without Hertz checking with the company about his entitlement to use it

Honestly, is being on DNR that bad? There is a lot of choice in car rentals these days.

Well, given that Hertz also owns Dollar and Thrifty, you're losing out on a sizable portion of your rental car options.

So when I use 005 as the CDP for AAA, am I in violation?
(Hertz still asks me 'is this for company business', etc, etc)
So if the answer is "no, as long as you are a AAA member you are fine", maybe OPs has a shot a pleading with Hertz.
Hey, just like I use the AAA CDP as a AAA member, I thought it was OK to use the Bank CPD as a Bank member.
(But yeah, someone got caught running a scam, IMO)
And agree the key is what the CDP agreement with hertz says....

Is 005 a general CDP such as those given out by airlines for customers to use or is it a corporate code set up by AAA for the use for employees of AAA
Use an airline FF CDP, cannot imagine that therewould be an issue even if not a member. Use a corporate code without authorisation , that is a different matter

This is a clear cut case. Being a customer of a bank doesn't entitle you to use of their internal corporate codes.

Agree 100%..
It's like saying I pay to the government at various levels (Federal, Provincial/State, City). I obviously can't go around using government/state/city employee discounts as a result of that.
